イギリスの歌手エルトン・ジョンが1970年に発売した曲です。ジョンにとって初めて世界的にヒットした曲です。多くのアーティストにカバーされ、1998年にはアメリカが「音楽史に残すべき作品」として選ぶ「グラミーの殿堂」に認定されました。
作詞はイギリスの作詞家バーニー・トーピン。ジョンの共作相手として知られ、1992年にはアメリカにて「ソングライターの殿堂」に認定されました。
