グラミー賞を受賞するなど、アメリカとカナダを中心にヒットしました。
この曲が収録されたデビューアルバム「Cracked Rear View」は全世界で1600万枚以上売れる大ヒットとなりました。

「Stipe／スタイプ」は人の名前。
「not far behind」は直訳すると「それほど遠くない」、つまり
「負けず劣らず」や「～のすぐ後ろに迫っている」などの意味。）

「run」は「走る」の意味ですが
「run ～ fingers through hair」で「指を走らせる」の意味合いから
「髪を～の手櫛で整える」や「髪をかき上げる」などの意味になります。
「gotta」は「have to ～／～しなければならない」の略で
「you gotta help me」で「助けてくれ」の意味ですが
「どうしても助けが必要」など、必死が強調される意味合いになります。
「fly away」は「飛び去る」などの意味ですが
虫などが飛び去ることから「逃げる」の意味にもなります。）
