1998年にアメリカの歌手マドンナが発表した曲です。
世界各国のチャートで1位を獲得した他、評論家からも「1990年代を代表する曲」と、高い評価を受けました。
曲作りにはマドンナも参加。マドンナ自身が出産など大きな転機となった経験を基に作ったそうです。

「あっと言う間に過ぎた」などの意味。
「For」は「～のため」の意味ですが、
前の文の理由を付け足す際には「～だから」の意味になります。
詩的な歌詞ですが「哀しみはいつか消え去るだろうか」
「雷鳴のような衝撃的な声は人々を身震いさせる／感動させる」
の意味だと解釈しています。
この声はマドンナ自身の「歌声」とマドンナの子どもの泣き声、
特に赤ちゃんが誕生した時の「産声」の両方の解釈ができます。）
