1978年にアメリカの歌手バリー・マニロウが発表した曲です。
同年公開のアメリカ映画「Foul Play／ファール・プレイ」の挿入歌でした。世界中でヒットした後、「コパカバーナ」の楽曲を基にミュージカルと映画が作られました。
アメリカのドラマなどで、よく結婚式の場面に使われている曲として耳にしたことがある方も多いと思います。ただ、1番しか歌わずサビを繰り返して歌われるので、誤解されている方も多いですが、最後まで聞くと内容は悲恋の曲です。
