1980年にアメリカのカントリー歌手ドリー・パートンが、映画「9 to 5」のために自身で書き下ろした曲です。同名のテレビシリーズでも使用され大ヒットしました。
グラミー賞を受賞し、アメリカ映画協会の「100年の100曲」に選出されるなど、高く評価されている一曲です。

「what a way to make a livin’／なんて生計の立て方」は

「Barely」は「かろうじて」などの意味。
「getting’ by」は「脇をすり抜ける」などの意味で
「Barely getting’ by」で「何とか通り抜ける」つまり

「tide」は「潮」の意味。
「roll your way」は幸運や良い流れが「やってくる」の意味で
「It’s all gonna roll your way」で「全てが良い方向に進む」や
「何もかも上手くいく」などの意味になります。）
