1976年にイギリスのバンド、ベイ・シティ・ローラーズが発表した曲です。
イギリスとアメリカを中心に世界的な大ヒットを記録しました。1963年にアメリカの歌手ダスティ・スプリングフィールドが発表した曲のカバーです。
日本でも大ヒットし数多くの歌手にカバーされました。一度は耳にしたことがある方も多いと思います。

「started something」は「何かを始める」の意味。
「can’t you see」は直訳すると「あなたは見えていない」ですが
転じて「あなたには分からないのかな」の意味。
「hold on me」は「私を捕える」や「私を支配する」などの意味。
「I happens to be ～」は「偶然～である」の意味。
「want be with you」は「あなたと一緒に居たい」の意味ですが
「あなたとずっと一緒に居たい」の意味合いがあります。）

世界中で「ビートルズの再来」と評され、ファンは「Rollermania／ローラーマニア」と呼ばれていたそうです。日本でも特に人気が高く、この曲は「二人だけのデート」の邦題で大人気だったとか。メンバーの入れ替わりを経て2020年まで活動されていました。メンバーにはご逝去された方もおられますが、曲の素晴らしさは不滅ですね。
