1989年にアメリカの歌手ジャネット・ジャクソンが発表した曲です。
ジャネット自身が曲作りに参加し、人種差別という重い題材をあえてダンスミュージックで歌うことで、人々の関心を集めようとしました。その狙い通り曲は世界中で大ヒットし、ジャネットはグラミー賞の「プロデューサー・オブ・ザ・イヤー」にノミネートされた他、多くの賞を獲得しました。
団体で同じ振り付けを踊るMVは、人種の調和を表現するために白黒で撮られ高い評価を受けました。後にビヨンセやアッシャー、P!nk、ブリトニー・スピアーズ、リアーナ、レディー・ガガなどが、この曲への敬意や影響について語る程、音楽史に大きな影響を与えた一曲です。

「social」は「社会の」、「injustice」は「不公平」などの意味。
「courage」は「勇気」や「度胸」などの意味ですが
同じ意味を持つ「brave」が行動を指すのに対し
「courage」は内面を指します。）

「数が多いほど強くなる」、「大勢いることの強さ」の意味。
「get it right」は「しっかりやり遂げる」つまり「成功させる」の意味。）

個人的には安室奈美恵さんが、歌手になる切っ掛けとなった曲として紹介されていたことで知りました。日本のアーティスト、音楽にも大きな影響をもたらした一曲です。
歌詞の内容を考えると良いのか悪いのか分かりませんが、現代でも誰が聞いても胸打つ曲だなと思います。
