1996年にディズニーのアニメ映画「The Hunchback of Notre Dame／ノートルダムのせむし男（邦題：ノートルダムの鐘）」の挿入歌として発表された曲です。
ディズニーアニメでありながら偏見や虐殺など大人向けの作品となっており、他のディズニーアニメに比べると人気は低いです。
曲の邦題は「ゴッド・ヘルプ」で保坂知寿さんが歌唱されています。もっと長い歌詞もあるそうですが、劇中曲としてしか知らないのでそちらを訳します。ご了承ください。
ちなみに映画タイトルの「Hunchback／せむし」は「背中が丸く曲がった人」の意味で、日本では差別用語に当たるので改題されています。

「定住しない放浪者たち」や「定職につかない者たち」など
差別的な意味があります。
「outcast」は「追放された人」や「見捨てられた人」
「仲間外れ」などの意味。
「Still」は「まだ」や「依然として」などの意味ですが
前の文に対して使われる場合は「それでも」の意味になります。
「Were you once ～?」は「あなたもかつては～でしたか？」の意味。）

（「my people／私の人々」は「私の支持者」や「従業員」などの意味。
転じて「私の家族」の意味や、
スラングで「私の仲間」「私の親友」などの意味もあります。
「look to you」は「あなたに期待している」や「頼りにしている」の意味。
「nobody will」は「誰も～しないだろう」の意味。）

個人的には海外映画の中で数少ない「日本語吹き替え版の方が好き」な作品です。劇団四季の皆さんの演技と歌唱力が圧巻です。ぜひ観ていただきたい作品です。
