1964年にアメリカのフォークデュオ、サイモン・アンド・ガーファンクルが発表したデビュー曲です。
発売当時は商業的に失敗しましたが、翌年の1965年にラジオで流れ始めると、徐々に若者からの支持を受け、日本を含めた世界中で大ヒットしました。2012年にはアメリカ議会図書館の国立録音登録簿に登録されました。
1967年には映画「The Graduate／卒業」にも使用されました。
歌詞は難解と有名ですが、歌詞を書いたポール・サイモンは、浴室で蛇口から水を出す時の音が好きで書いた、と述べたそうです。

「might」は「かもしれない」や「しても良い」の意味で
「I might」で「私が～できるように」の意味にもなります。）
