2005年にアメリカのロックバンド、グリーン・デイが発表した曲です。
明確な反戦デモ曲として世界中でヒットしました。また、当時のブッシュ政権だけでなく、2016年のトランプ氏の大統領選挙運動に対しても、抗議の意味を込めて歌詞を変えてライブで披露したそうです。
タイトルでもある「Holiday／休日」は、抗議活動をしない国民に対して「休んでる場合じゃないぞ」と発破をかける意味でつけられたという説があります。

「a flag wrapped around／旗で包み込まれた」のは
棺のことではないかなと解釈しています。
「gag」は「猿ぐつわ」など口に詰めて「発言させない」の意味。
「A plastic bag on a monument／記念碑を覆うビニール袋」は
戦死者を出しながら記念碑は守られ建てられる、という
抗議の歌詞かなと解釈しています。）

ドイツ語で「勝利万歳」の意味で
ヒトラーやナチ党のスローガンだったそうです。
「gas／ガス」はそのまま「ガス」や「ガソリン」などの意味ですが
スラングで「無駄口を叩く」や「中身の無い長話」の意味もあります。
「Bombs away」は「爆弾を遠ざける」
つまり「爆弾投下」や「爆弾を落とす」の意味。
「punishment」は「罰」は「刑罰」の意味。
「Pulverize」は「粉砕する」や「完全にやっつける」などの意味。
「エッフェル塔」があるフランスはイラク戦争に反対し不参加でした。
「criticize」は「批判する」や「責める」などの意味。
