2010年にアメリカの歌手ケイティ・ペリーが発表した曲です。世界中で商業的な大成功を収めました。
収録アルバム「Teenage Dream」の中でもケイティ本人が「お気に入りの曲」と述べています。曲作りに携わったケイティいわく、ジャック・ケルアックの小説「路上」から着想を得て、歌詞が書かれたそうです。

「plastic bag」は日本で言う「ビニール袋」や「ポリ袋」などの意味。
「Drifting through ～」は「～の中を漂う」の意味で
「当てもなく彷徨う」「ぼんやり通り過ぎる」などの意味にもなります。
「thin」は「薄っぺら」や「厚みが無い」などの意味。
「caving in」は「崩れ落ちる」や「陥没する」の意味。
「Six feet／6フィート」は「182.88cm」だそうです。
「no one seems to ～」は「誰も～しないようだ」の意味。）

（「gotta」は「have got to／～しなければならない」の口頭略。
「ignite」は「点火」などの意味。
「the Fourth of July／7月4日」はアメリカにとって
イギリスからの占領から解放された「独立記念日」。）

（「’em」は「them／彼（女）ら」の略。
「them」は文脈によって「彼らみんな」のように訳されます。
「Make them go」は「彼らに～させる」の意味ですが
その後に「驚き」や「興奮」を意味する「”Oh”」が続くので
「驚かせる」や「興奮させて」と訳しました。
「gonna」は「going to／～しそうだ」の短縮形。
「leave ‘em all in」は「全ての人を置いていかない」の意味、
つまり「その場に居る全員」の意味です。
「awe」は「畏怖」の意味ですが、それと「some／いくつか」
を合わせた「awesome／素晴らしい」の意味として
略して使われることが多いので「感動」と訳しました。）

（「waste of space」は直訳すると「空間の無駄遣い」で
「無駄な存在」や「無能な人」の意味でもあります。
「After a hurricane comes a rainbow／嵐の後に虹が架かる」
は「苦難の先に希望が見える」などの意味ですが
ハワイのことわざだそうです。）
Boom, boom, boom

（「Boom」は大きな音を意味する擬音で
この歌詞の場合は花火の音です。
「let it through」は「通過させる」の意味ですが
歌詞の内容から「光を通して火花を散らす」と解釈し
「解き放つ」と訳しました。）

大勢の人が踊るMVは38000人の応募者から選ばれたそうです。様々な「弱者」と呼ばれる立場の視点から群像劇のように繰り広げられるMVは感動的です。ケイティはMVの収益をLGBTQ＋の非営利団体に寄付したそうです。曲もMVも名作です。
